Episode 29 & 30
Session Summary
These two sessions spanned the several minutes it took for the heroes to secure the Smolga River crossing. The scenario put them on a plateau just beyond a ravine leading back to Longmorn’s Slants district. There, a guard tower overlooked the area but had been compromised with Necroblins having dug under it. Further on, another tower, half-finished and its twin on the far side of the river stood watch over a newly constructed bridge crossing.
After three sessions of combat, the party and ended the battle with a success as they blew the bridge, detonated a guard tower, caved in an access tunnel the Ringspore Necroblins were using, and ended up with a hoverbug under their control.
Karissa's character "Nedra Nova" perished in the process, so Brynn arrived via the ravine to reinforce the group, an OG character that didn't get taken prisoner at Fraggle Rock.
A giant corrupted purple worm bored its way out of the earth on the far side of the river, delivering a large horde of the spore priests, giant butchers and necroblin warriros that the party had been facing in small waves coming out of the access tunnels in the area.
The party ended precariously divided. Voscheck and Shadow had left the battlefield bloodied and bruised, but alive. As the approaching enemy horde witnessed the explosion of the bridge, they slowed their advance, cut off from the only crossing that would afford them access to the town from this vector. Their arrows still a threat (there were dozens of Necroblin archers on the far side of the river), Voscheck and Shadow retreated into the narrow but tall ravine that leads through the cliffs to the town. With ringfall still coming down, they took temporary shelter under an outcropping of rock, becoming reliant on natural cover and their dwindling supply of ash milk to keep from becoming ringspore infected. The others made it aboard a hoverbug that had been shot down on the enemy side of the river. Dirk used an arrow of transposition to board it, took control, and successfully maneuvered it so others could get aboard and blow up the bridge before the horde got across. The NPC pilot Luka regained consciousness after being mind controlled by spore priests and forced to crash. She helped Dirk fly a little but was still badly dazed.
With the horde stuck on the other side of the river but the hoverbug still in range of their arrows and the spore priests’ spells, they dove for cover in the river and crashed the hoverbug into the fast moving deep and brackish water. The river current quickly swept them under the cliffs into the cavernous depths below, vaguely in the direction of the town. The hoverbug is damaged, its hull is compromised, it is leaking while submerged, and the lights are flickering…
